Martin Smith & A Handful Of Keys (1991)
In 1991, Martin Smith released his first and only solo album titled "Martin Smith & A Handful Of Keys". The album's title is especially fitting considering Martin's immense talent as a pianist, and he plays on every track!
The album was produced by Martin and Nick Fiveash, and recorded at Porcupine Studios in Mottingham in 1991. Martin did all the arrangements for the album in addition to playing the piano on all 12 tracks. Jeremy Meehan played the bass, Ralph Salmins played the drums, and Rod Doherty played the woodwinds.
The album included standards, musical theater material, and original compositions by Martin. These included "All Of Your Life", "Summer Morning" (from La Tosca, with Philip Trocki), and two songs from Martin's musical King, "Keep On Believing" and "I Ain't Gonna Leave You".
It is an incredible work, thanks to Martin's incredible acting and phrasing abilities. He makes you feel each and every song and you simply cannot imagine them being sung by anyone else!
The CD was successful upon its initial release, but very sadly went out of print once Martin died. The CD has become a collector's item and goes for astronomical prices online nowadays whenever it gets listed, and it is not available on iTunes, AmazonMP3 or any other digital streaming/downloading services.
As such, I have decided to put the full album up for streaming online exclusively for this website, thanks to Bandcamp's music streaming services. Now the album can be enjoyed in its entirety and is easily available to all those who wish to hear it.
Please enjoy, and spread the album with whoever you feel would like to hear it! Help keep his memory alive with this incredible collection.
Thank you all for listening.
